At Solipso, we understand that your journal entries contain some of the most personal thoughts and reflections you'll ever write. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and handle your information when you use our AI-powered journaling service.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and giving you control over your data. Your entries are never read by humans, never sold to third parties, and never used to train AI models.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Full name — Used to personalize your experience
  • Email address — Used for account authentication and important communications
  • Password — Securely hashed and stored; we never have access to your plaintext password

Journal Content

When you use Solipso, we store:

  • Journal entries — The text you write in your journal
  • AI reflections — The Socratic reflections generated by our AI in response to your entries
  • Conversations — Follow-up questions and responses between you and the AI
  • Insights — Patterns, emotions, and themes detected in your writing to help you gain self-awareness

Optional Zero-Knowledge Encryption

If you enable our optional zero-knowledge encryption feature, your journal entries are encrypted on your device before being stored. In this mode:

  • We cannot read your encrypted entries — only you have the decryption key
  • Encrypted content is stored on IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) for additional security
  • Your encryption keys are derived from your password using industry-standard Argon2id
  • A recovery key is provided for backup purposes — store it safely

Usage Data

We collect minimal usage data including:

  • Timestamps of when entries are created and modified
  • Word counts and entry metadata

We do not use third-party analytics services, tracking pixels, or advertising networks.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide AI reflections — Your entries are processed by our AI to generate thoughtful, Socratic reflections
  • Generate insights — We analyze patterns in your writing to help you understand recurring themes and emotions
  • Improve your experience — Recent entries and insights provide context for more personalized AI responses
  • Communicate with you — We may send important service-related emails to your registered email address

AI Processing

Solipso uses Anthropic's Claude AI to generate reflections on your journal entries. When you request a reflection:

  • Your entry content is sent to Anthropic's API for processing
  • Recent entries (up to 14) may be included for context
  • Your detected patterns and insights are included to personalize responses

Important: Your entries are never used to train Anthropic's AI models. We use Anthropic's API in a way that ensures your data is processed only to generate your response and is not retained by Anthropic for training purposes.

Data Security

We implement multiple layers of security to protect your data:

  • Row-Level Security (RLS) — Database policies ensure you can only access your own data
  • Encrypted connections — All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS
  • Secure authentication — Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms
  • Optional client-side encryption — Zero-knowledge encryption available for maximum privacy

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to provide Solipso:

  • Supabase — Database hosting and authentication (data stored in secure cloud infrastructure)
  • Anthropic — AI processing for generating reflections (Claude API)
  • Web3.Storage — IPFS storage for encrypted entries (optional, when encryption is enabled)
  • Vercel — Application hosting

Each of these providers has their own privacy policies and security measures. We have selected them based on their commitment to data protection and security.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual entries at any time, and they will be permanently removed from our systems.

If you delete your account, all associated data — including entries, analyses, conversations, and insights — will be permanently deleted.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data — View all your entries, analyses, and insights within the app
  • Delete your data — Remove individual entries or your entire account
  • Export your data — Request a copy of your data by contacting us
  • Correct your data — Edit your entries and account information at any time

Cookies

Solipso uses only essential cookies required for authentication and session management. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

Children's Privacy

Solipso is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Our service providers maintain servers in various locations globally. By using Solipso, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or through the app. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
